Lunsar Cycling Team
Where even Is Lunsar?
Lunsar is a small mining town in northern Sierra Leone. They have a cycling team there. Our relationship with Lunsar began in June 2017, when one of our founders took part in the West Africa Cycle Challenge, organised by UK charity, Street Child.
Since then, we've fundraised for and sent kit to Lunsar on a fairly random basis. This included the creation of Sierra Leone's first ever club kit, which you can see modelled by a few of the Lunsar riders (and a handful of BBBCers too) below. The kit was very generously sponsored by east London creative agency, Speak Media. The design was done by Johanna Pearson and the kit was made by Milltag.
UK sales of this kit directly support Lunsar as they chase their dream of becoming the best cycling team in Sierra Leone, and then West Africa.
In February 2018, Lunsar hosted their home bike race, the Tour de Lunsar, and dominated the competition. LCT riders took the top six spots in the men's category, while the women's saw first and third taken by Lunsar riders.
How CAN I SUPPORT LUNSAR?
The process of sending things to Sierra Leone poses some unique logistical issues, but right now we're investigating getting the team some raceable road bikes. Aluminium frames, made in the last ten years, capable of taking a bit of a pounding. Do you have one? Get in touch.
You can also buy a jersey. Did we mention that?
